Day 17: Wedding day!

Dec 5, 2015 - The big day is finally here!

For this day, I will let the photos do the talking.  Van's special day contained 500 guests, 20 bridal party members, 5 or 6 lucky cakes, a 4 tower wedding cake, an 8 course lunch, and all in the time frame of 5am to 4pm .....have a look and drool :)

Day 16: The Tea Ceremony

After Thao's hectic arrival ....the very next day, preparations started for Friday's Tea Ceremony!

Eating from morning to night, taking a break for naps only.

The schedule was as follows:

Most of the early morning was spent with food preparations for the 'new comers' such as Thao and Renata ....and all other visitors, relatives from the USA, including other parts of Vietnam. All we had to do is wake up....and have a seat at the table, food was served.

By late morning our bellies were full and we were ready to focus on the preparations for he tea ceremony dinner and last minute dress preparations for the big day!

Thao and I had to rent special dresses as none of the available choices fit us.  Well, more so, the giant white woman, like myself, stretching a whopping 160cm to the skies, further, equipped with broad swimmer's shoulders, seemed to make it difficult for fitting within the Vietnamese ao dai. But at the end of the day, we found just the right fit. Wearing a little from the birde's plans (but within the assigned limits by the bride), Thao and I were specially dressed in yellow lace gowns of ao dai for the big day.  For the tea ceremony, I was allowed to attend in my western dress (which was actually a South African batic), while Thao had other beautiful outfits to wear.

In order to ensure we did not become famished after a 30 min shopping spree, lunch was ready and served at home upon our arrival! If I remember correctly, food did not leave our hands on this day.  Here we were, eating nearly every hour (or minute, hard to say), as food preparations were taking place for the tea ceremony and dinner.  I was getting a strange feeling that I just might not fit either western nor ao dai by the time we reach these events.

I seem to have very little photos from late afternoon, so I'm going to make an educated guess that at this stage, we all took a nap, brought on by sheer food coma.  I love this place and wished for this wedding to never end.

As the evening rolled in, everyone got nicely dressed up, and was ready to attend the much anticipated tea ceremony.  This is where the daughter has her chance to say her goodbye's to her family before moving into her husbands home.  After this ceremony, she will no longer be the daughter, rather the wife and daughter-in-law to her new family.  Such a moving ceremony, such difficulties but happiness all wrapped up in the evening......my most favourite part though, I have to say, was the dinner which followed such special occasion :)

Not a dry face in the room, both from tears of joy, and splashed of Pho on our faces :)

Yum!
